You see, we kept meeting young gun winemakers who had access to tiny parcels of prime fruit which they wanted to craft into small-batch, character-laden wines – and we wanted to encourage them! With no rules to adhere to, these talented winemakers produced astounding wines that dazzled the critics: "Avant-garde and highly successful" (James Halliday), "Australian genius … made with passion" (Jancis Robinson MW), "Must be tasted to be believed" (Robert Parker). RedHeads nowadays has much bigger premises in the South Australia's world-famous Barossa, but it is uniquely designed to produce small batch fermentations, just like they did in the old days. The 1888 is their flagship Barossa Shiraz and it's a beauty, deep, dark and decadently intense – the kind that made the Barossa famous. Make sure you go and visit them in the Barossa. They'd love to show you around.
The McPherson team know how to extract every bit of ripe juicy flavour from their Cabernet grapes, picking out the very best for this wine. It is named after the great man’s dad, Jock. Hints of oaky spice perfectly complement the cassis fruit.

RedHeads was born in 2003 when Tony Laithwaite and a group of ambitious young visionaries turned a former restaurant into a winery like no other. The mission: to liberate fine grapes from the ‘big guys’, to empower hard working small time growers and to give winemakers complete creative freedom. By day they’d toil for big wine companies, by night they’d moonlight at RedHeads on wines they’d always dreamt of making.
16 years later RedHeads has won several Trophies, more than 100 Golds – and lots of customers. It's no surprise to see weighty, complex Esulé add to that tally. It's a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and rare McLaren Vale Cabernet Franc – only made possible by RedHeads' close relationships with the region's very best grape growers.

So we were thrilled when Andrew McPherson decided to craft a special Reserve edition.
It’s been made in honour of Andrew’s mother Doreen, a woman who embodied Australia’s great pioneering spirit and whose devotion to family inspired everyone around her.
To call this Andrew’s special project red is an understatement. He seeks out premium parcels of old vine Shiraz and Cabernet from acclaimed Victorian vineyards and treats the wine to long, luxurious ageing in finest oak barrels.
The result is a berry laden, richly concentrated, spicy red. Serve with prime steak or roast lamb.
