Tyrrells is one of the most famous names in Australian wine. Founded in 1858 in the Hunter Valley, five generations later they still produce some of the country's finest wines. They are renowned for the world's best Semillon and produce many other wines with legendary status. Their list of awards includes Australia’s Best Winery, Winery of the Year 2010, Winemaker of the Year twice in 2004 and in 2009, 14 out of 19 Trophies at the Sydney Show and many more!
In 1994 they made their first foray into Heathcote. The excellent structure and white pepper lift of this red are thanks to the ancient Cambrian soils, unique to this area. With firm structure, dense fruit and supple smokiness from 18 months in oak, it's best decanted early or cellared.
Roughly translated to 'house of oak'. Valentino and us have become good friends over the years. We enjoy raising a glass to the milestones in each other's lives. Like the time his cellar won Italy's Winery of the Year three times.
2024 marks another important milestone with 15 wonderful years of Laithwaites Direct Wines in Hong Kong. Leading critic Luca Maroni has rated it an impressive 98 points (a near-perfect score on his trademark 99-point scale) for two vintages in a row.
The secret? Valentino and his dedicated team work closely with Abruzzo's best local vineyards. They guide the growers to excellence, encouraging low yields, organic methods and hand harvesting. You can taste the difference in this Ultima Edizione di Villa Farnia Bianco.
A combination of Pecorino, Moscato di Castiglione and Sauvignon Blanc, this is a delightful expression of fresh white flower and citrus-fruit aromas. The crisp, juicy palate delivers exotic guava, ripe apricot and peach, with hints of apple and passion fruit characters, all leading to a long, refreshing finish.
We're quite fond of it as an aperitif on the terrace in the afternoon sun. A creamy pasta or fennel risotto would happily work too.
Just remember, only 30 sets are available for this Buy 6 Get 6 Free offer. So, place your order today.
We’ve championed Jean Charles Duran’s superb Un Vent de Folie for a decade. This is his Grand Cru version.
It uses Grenache and Carignan from his 100+ year old Maury Sec vines, and the wine is barrel aged. Powerful yet elegant, balanced and long.
Dynamic wine producers are embracing more organic vineyard techniques and avoiding the animal based products that are traditionally used to clarify wines. And now we have picked some of the best vegan varieties for you! Just $89 a bottle!
Our Buyer for Bordeaux, Jean-Marc Sauboua, praises this wine as "Lovely mellow maturity to this well-aged Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, a sibling to Château Plaisance", their flagship Grand Cru.
The 65-year-old vines are planted on prized gravel and sandy soils in the southwest of Saint-Émilion, which means they are very well drained and the grapes at harvest time are exceptionally concentrated. The fruit is hand-picked and meticulously selected.
This opulent Gold-winning Grand Cru is a Merlot dominant blend (80%) with the balance made up of Cabernet Franc (10%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). A careful hand in the vineyard and the cellar, along with 14+ months' ageing in new oak, ensure pretty fruit with enough power and structure to age. Indeed, it’s rare to obtain a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru with over 10 years’ age and at such a sensible price!
Enjoy aromas of mature red fruits, tobacco, earthy undergrowth, as well as tertiary elements of leather. Over 10 years cellaring has resulted in a silky palate of mellow red fruit, earthy tobacco and gentle spice oak notes. Stand the bottle upright a few hours, so that any sediment there is will drop to the bottom. Then carefully decant. Serve with simple dishes to show it at its best – roast duck or crisp pork belly works best.
