Description

Pessac Léognan, the most prestigious part of Bordeaux’s Graves region, is famous for its ravishingly complex clarets. Quantities are tiny, prices are high, and they are highly sought after by avid connoisseurs. So I am thrilled to bring you the sublime 2007 vintage from the historic Château Haut-Bergey which dates back to the 15th century, a time when the vineyards of Pessac Léognan were praised by the diarist Samuel Pepys.

Pessac Léognan, the most prestigious part of Bordeaux’s Graves region, is famous for its ravishingly complex clarets. So I am thrilled to bring you the sublime 2007 vintage from the historic Château Haut-Bergey which dates back to the 15th century, a time when the vineyards of Pessac Léognan were praised by the diarist Samuel Pepys.

Many of those vineyards have been engulfed by the city of Bordeaux, but luckily for lovers of fine Pessac Léognan, Château Haut-Bergey remains. The superb quality of the wines – and their extraordinary longevity – is remarkable. Indeed, Robert Parker has described Château Haut-Bergey as "Consistently one of the top, under-the-radar wines of Pessac-Léognan".

Featuring deep, minerally Cabernet, with a sizeable portion of Merlot lending roundness, this superb example was aged in 50% new oak barrels for 16 months. Now showing mature dusty fruits, it’s silky, complex and long, with wonderful cedar, earth and spice characters on a mellow, velvety palate.
